Maize Meal Quality Proficiency Testing Scheme – August 2026
The Maize Meal Quality proficiency test was introduced by the SAGL at the request of the Maize Milling industry to provide an independent evaluation of their testing capabilities.
Participation in maize meal quality proficiency testing ensures accurate and reliable results, strengthens food safety and compliance, and builds confidence in product quality through continuous performance benchmarking and improvement.
Laboratories, food producers, millers, and regulatory bodies involved in maize meal production and testing will all benefit from participation in this scheme.

Maize Meal Quality Proficiency Testing scheme is scheduled quarterly (February, May, August and November). It is recommended but not necessary to participate in all 4 rounds per year.
- 1kg Super / Special Maize Meal will be dispatched on 3 JULY 2026
- SUBMISSION DEADLINE FOR RESULTS: 11 AUGUST 2026
- Reports will be distributed to participants by the end of August 2026
1kg Super / Special Maize Meal is analysed for the following:
- Speck count,
- Particle size,
- Moisture,
- Fat,
- Fibre,
- Protein,
- Ash and
- Whiteness Index

All information held by The Southern African Grain Laboratory NPC relating to participants in the Proficiency Testing Scheme is treated as strictly confidential and will not be disclosed to any third party unless the participant has provided explicit consent for a specific purpose.
To ensure the confidentiality of participant information, reports issued as part of the Proficiency Testing Scheme will present participant data and results in an anonymized format. Laboratory code numbers used in these reports are allocated sequentially based on the order in which results are received from participating laboratories.
